Jackie and Marilyn | Candy Corn

Ever since Melissa’s wedding this summer, I’ve been looking for a way to wear the eShakti dress I purchased for the occasion. It’s a lot of yellow so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to overwhelm it with color. But then again, I didn’t want it to be boring either. Enter black and orange accessories!

IMG_4758This outfit isn’t just delightfully fall – it is quintessentially Halloween! And considering I wore it for the week before Halloween, it was perfect 🙂 With the white and yellow on top and orange on the bottom, I felt exactly like candy corn!

Admittedly, this dress has been a small pain for me because it just does not want to iron flat. The fabric of this dress just doesn’t want to keep out the wrinkles. I don’t think it wouldn’t hinder me from getting another item from eShakti, but after ironing the white seam around the waist for the second time, I was begging the dress to lay flat. But I’m not one to give up on a dress so easily!

IMG_4788The mix of a black cardigan and tights with the bright orange shoes allowed for some balance between the bold colors of orange and yellow. Do I normally endorse a quirky cacophony of color? Yes. Is it always necessary? No. You can create a fun seasonal outfit without going too overboard if you mix in a universal neutral color to even out the eye-catching tones.

IMG_4777These bright orange heels have been a fantastic addition to my autumn-based closet. So have these new acorn earrings from ModCloth!

IMG_4776 IMG_4794Keeping with fall, I now have on the Fall Fancy wrap from Jamberry. They’re a bit metallic for fall and I think I may save my next manicure with this wrap for the holidays, but they’re still pretty cute and top off an autumnal outfit with their leaf print!

Jackie and Marilyn | Autumn Palette

I’ve been so happy with the mildly cool weather, falling leaves and vibrant colors in Minnesota lately. It’s truly breathtaking!

I decided this week to wear an outfit that matches the lovely autumn palette outside. I tried wearing a coat and scarf because it was supposed to be a bit chilly, but I ditched it quickly – a warm dress and cardigan were enough.

IMG_4571This outfit was based around on of my favorite new items: A mustard Amelia from Lularoe. I’ve wanted one of these babies since I tried my first dress, and now it’s mine! It’s a perfect base for any fall ensemble.

IMG_4618

To keep the fall colors going, I chose a forest green cardigan, dark red leggings and brown accessories. Each piece of the outfit matches different leaves in the trees near my home 🙂IMG_4612I was a little worried about this outfit at first: There are no patterns! Would it be too boring? Thankfully it wasn’t. You don’t always need a bunch of patterns – sometimes it’s enough to just wear seasonal hues! Plus, the autumn leaves don’t have a Boston Terrier pattern and they look gorgeous anyway, right? (Although that would be super adorable and amazing…)

IMG_4580For brown accessories, I chose some cognac booties, tan boot socks and a brown belt with feathers.

IMG_4631 IMG_4633Wanting to keep it a little interesting, I chose a bold autumnal leaf necklace and earrings that match but are oddly enough not from the same place! Serendipitous pairings are the best 🙂

IMG_4629And because I live in Jamberry wraps lately, I’ve been sporting these lovely Country Harvest wraps thanks to my friend Sarah!

IMG_4635What I Wore:
Dress: Lularoe (other colors)
Cardigan: Thrifted
Coat: ModCloth (via Stylish Surprise)
Scarf: Brickyard Buffalo
Belt: Forever 21
Earrings: Francesca’s
Necklace: ModCloth (another color)
Leggings: Old Navy
Socks: Target
Boots: ModCloth
Nails: Jamberry

Happy fall, y’all 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Foxes and Foliage

Happy fall, everyone! Hooray for the best season ever!

One thing I love about fall is all of the fun critter prints. In particular, I love foxes. Lately I’ve found a lot of new fox things and I discovered I (almost) have a full fox outfit. If anyone knows where I can find an inexpensive fox blouse, hook a girl up!

IMG_4064 IMG_4099These knee-high fox socks are perfectly adorable! I was a little worried at first about mixing the brown with the black, but I think it works. I wore denim to make this an outfit full of neutral colors.

IMG_4080 IMG_4102The socks and skirt were delightful but adding fox flats and earrings made it even more fun! At one point I asked my husband “Is this too whimsical?” He said of course not. And I agree – if you’re going to go whimsy, might as well go all out!

IMG_4100 IMG_4101The shirt wasn’t the only piece that wasn’t “foxy.” I decided to wear a fall bow with my ponytail and only had this plaid one. Still super cute! Maybe I don’t need an outfit entirely made of one animal print…or maybe I need a fox now 😉

IMG_4103I topped off the outfit with my absolute favorite Jamberry manicure ever: foxes!

IMG_4179What I Wore:
Bow: Forever 21
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Skirt: Target
Skirt: Ruche
Socks: ModCloth
Shoes: ModCloth (similar)
Nails: Jamberry

This outfit was so critterful and fall appropriate that I had to wear it for one of my favorite seasonal activities: apple picking! It was a perfect autumn day 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Brianna’s Beach-Ready Bag

Happy first week of summer, everyone! Only 91 days until the first day of autumn! 😉

As much as I love fall, I have to admit that this summer weather does have its perks. Lots of time outside, local farmer’s markets and opportunities to go swimming!

This week, we are featuring our beach-ready bags on the blog to help you all maximize your summer days. Here are my essentials!

IMG_2121Basics

Sunscreen, sunglasses, beach towel. Sunscreen is a no-brainer, but for me it’s super essential. I get really tan in the summer and I don’t always like it, so I try to keep it to a minimum with SPF 50.

IMG_2125 IMG_2135Big sun hats

For the same reason – maximum face protection. Plus, they’re super adorable!

IMG_2128Cover-up

I like having something to throw on over my swimsuit before I go to the beach because I don’t want to change when I get there. By having a cover-up, I can walk into a store on the way to the beach in case I forgot something or want to buy some snacks beforehand. I don’t like buying more clothes if I don’t have to, so I prefer to repurpose items. This was a dress I bought at a street fair in England when I traveled with my university five years ago! It’s a little baggy in the chest for regular wear but it makes for a cute beach throw.

IMG_2130Extra bag of clothes

I don’t want to change at the beach, but sometimes when I am leaving it is handy to be able to change into regular clothes, depending on where I am going next. I pack a smaller reuseable polyester bag to put inside my beach bag full of clothes, and it doubles as a bag to place my wet swimsuit if I change!

IMG_2137A good book

I am not the type that can just lie in the sun all day – I need activity! When I’m not in the water, playing a game or eating, I need to read to keep myself busy. I’m rereading the Harry Potter series right now and enjoying all the foreshadowing 🙂

IMG_2139Hair accessories

My hair is thick and I get super warm when it’s not up, but I don’t like having it up. I go in thinking “maybe this time it will be different, maybe I can leave it down the whole day!” No dice. I always need backup. I bring multi-colored hair ties so that I can have some fun if I decide to put my hair in pigtails, and the head scarf allows me to push back flyaways if they’re bugging me. They get their own separate baggy so they don’t get lost!

IMG_2140 IMG_2142Food

Food gets its own bag – a picnic basket! But it is equally essential as everything else. This picnic basket came from my best friend, and I love how well it straps everything in and keeps the food cool!

IMG_2156 IMG_2157 IMG_2158

And that’s it! Now I am ready for the beach!

IMG_4541 I work half days on Fridays all summer so my husband and I took the opportunity to have a picnic lunch at a local beach we’d never seen. It’s nice to get out and spend some time together without the crowds.

IMG_4555 IMG_4559 IMG_4549I love my Esther Williams swimsuit from ModCloth. I have it in two colors! You really feel comfortable and cute while wearing. Bikinis are great if you like them, but they’re not my bag personally. I prefer the structure of a one-piece.

IMG_4567 IMG_4573I couldn’t go to the beach without my Salt Water sandals either – or a fresh Jambicure! This was my first time applying Jamberry wraps to my toes and I think they turned out nicely.

Swimsuit: ModCloth
Cover-up: Vintage
Sandals: ModCloth
Nails: Jamberry

Jackie and Marilyn | Vacolorful

SUNSHINE! I may have had to go on vacation to find it, but the last week was all about soaking up some much needed rays and being as comfy as possible in the process.

I went on a little mini vacation with my fiance to Arizona. He lived there for a couple years for school and it had cheap flights so we thought “why not?” My parents have been snowbirding there this past winter and we were watching their dog…so the second they got back we switched places.
IMAG1244_1I packed a lot of sundresses but spent a majority of my time in this very 80s set. I got this floral set and a more tropical one at the same time a couple months ago from Goodwill. I wasn’t quite sure if I could pull it off – or if I even wanted to – but I’m super glad they exist! Nothing like elastic high-waisted shorts to drive around and over eat in!
received_10100712857604779_1_1
received_10100712857599789_1I kept the color going with my new floral Jamberry nail stickers and a delicious shaved ice. I kept the rest of myself accessory free for simplicity’s sake, which is great since we were at an open air zoo and the ostrich was known to steal people’s jewelry.
IMAG1224_1The zoo we went to was Out of Africa and it is pretty great! No closed in exhibits, just a lot of animals that could no longer make it in the wilderness with giant areas to roam. Sometimes they are close enough to see from the safari bus, but if not, they are left to go on with their day. Here I am feeding a tiger they brought in to a separate enclosure for lunch. He ate his weight in chicken and steak and is pretty much my hero.

Jackie and Marilyn | Easteroe

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend! My husband and I enjoyed a day with family and a bunch of playtime with our nieces 🙂

I celebrated the holiday by (finally) getting into the spring spirit with some seasonal colors and patterns!

IMG_0646I recently hosted an online Lularoe party, which resulted in earning some free Lularoe! Among my choices were this amazing floral dress, which I had been eyeing on Instagram for a while, and a matching pair of leggings.

IMG_0717You may have heard Lularoe leggings referred to as “buttery soft,” and that’s not just a marketing tagline: They are seriously the softest, most comfortable pair of leggings I have ever worn. If you haven’t tried Lularoe and want to start small, start with the leggings and you’ll be hooked for good.

This Amelia was perfect for following the kids during Easter egg hunts, tickle wrestling and ham consumption. Plus, it’s twirly!

IMG_0683I decided to complement the outfit with a mint necklace and brown booties to keep it simple. This dress doesn’t need much help 😉

IMG_0648IMG_0651I also got my spring on with a fresh Jambicure! Is there anything more perfect than mint chevron?? If you haven’t seen the spring/summer catalog yet, take a look and prepare to swoon!

Hope you had an egg-cellent holiday! 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Lula-Jam

Sometimes your friends are terrible influences on you morally. Luckily my friends are only terrible (read: great) influences on my pocket book! Both my friend Sarah and my blog other half, Brianna, got me into some serious trouble with both Jamberry and Lularoe, respectively. Sarah is a Jamberry consultant and Brianna hosted an online Lularoe party.
jam6If you’ve read this blog before, you are no stranger to either! But if you need a refresher: Jamberry are these great little nail stickers that (so far so good) stay on forever and Lularoe is a comfy, American-made clothing company. No one is paying me to say any of these things; both are pretty great. Since I got my orders for both on the same day, I figured why not wear all my spoils at once?
Jam1jam7Since my closet is literally overflowing with dresses, I decided to get a tunic that I could wear with leggings from Lularoe. I think animal print gets a bad rap sometimes for being too gawdy, but it can be done right! Basically don’t wear it with feathered bangs and you’re good 🙂 I may have gone a little overboard wearing this to work, especially with pleathered leggings…but it was Friday so I don’t know what else they expected me to do.
jam8I was lucky enough to have exact matching earrings from my friend, Tasha.
jam5I admit I did these Jams in bed 10 minutes before lights out, so I could’ve and should’ve spent a lot more time on them but I’m not one for patience. Nonetheless, the little effort I did put in kept them looking pretty good. A couple bubbles that next time I will smooth out instead of shrugging and snoring.
jam4Another thing that came in the mail – a ring I ordered on a whim from Zulily. This entire outfit is online-deal shopping based, except for my shoes and earrings!
