Jackie and Marilyn | Braceface

Last week was a pretty big one for me, as I got my top row of braces! I will be wearing these babies for the next two years (bottom row to come in October)!

IMG_3418Naturally after undergoing this change, I was feeling a little self conscious about my mouth, partly because I felt like my teeth were trying to stab their way out of my cheeks. I figured the best way to distract from my new metal was to wear as bold of a print as possible. Enter LuLaRoe!

IMG_3315I recently picked up this floral beauty and I LOVE it! Unlike my other Nicole, I feel like the waistline is a little more agreeable and works better with a belt. The bold flowers make this a fun spring/summer frock.

IMG_3424I’m almost a week into the braces now and I am feeling a bit better about wearing them, mostly because my teeth feel a little less like they are trying to escape 🙂 Plus, you can never discount doing something that is good for your long-term health, and fixing my crowding/overbite will definitely be the best decision I made for my little Chiclets!
IMG_3349 IMG_3325The dress seemed like it was begging to be worn to a garden party, so I styled it with a bow belt, a teacup necklace, my trusty summer wedges and a woodland creature-themed earrings from A Delightful Shop. Because deer totally show up to tea parties, right??

Jackie and Marilyn | Courthouse Chic

Things are HEATING UP. I mean, it’s supposed to be summer (and the weather is stuck, for the most part, in spring), but also my life is going at the typical “Blink and you might miss it” summer pace. I have less than two months before I get married in my yard and the the to-do list is out the door!
1June2Thankfully we got one thing checked off the list last week: we applied for our marriage license! We both had to take time off of work since the courthouse for our county isn’t close to us and isn’t open on the weekends. It was nice to get up early, get dressed and NOT go to work.

1June1I could’ve gone to the courthouse in my PJ’s, but as it was a day I was hoping to remember, I wanted to wear something a little more fancy and a little more wedding-themed. I got this dress from an Instagram shop that always haunts me. The shop is so popular that you can’t really “claim” anything before someone else gets to it. I was 3rd back up for this dress, so I’m pretty lucky the first two fell through!

1June5The butterfly belt was a find from my thrift and garage sale shopping on my birthday. There was a “pop up” vintage shop on the side of the road (really) and I had to stop myself from buying EVERYTHING. Luckily this cute butterfly belt was only $1 so I had to have it. Throw in my favorite white sandals and some pastel sunglasses and you have an outfit to coax the sun out!
1June41June3The courthouse took a total of 15 minutes, so we spent the rest of the day going to birthday lunches with coworkers and registering for gifts. Now to fight the urge to elope….;)

Sunglasses: Target
Shoes: Zulilly.com

Jackie and Marilyn | Dear Spring

I don’t want to jinx it guys, but spring is here! By no means am I sunbathing or turning on the A/C but there are a lot more thunderstorms than snow storms, and that’s all one can really ask for!
Ap30IMG_7243I wanted to celebrate spring this weekend with some springy hues, shoes and accessories! I wore this vintage wrap dress while running errands and it made me feel like I worked in a flower shop or some cute little bakery that just opened up its patio for the season. Really I was a girl searching for cheap coconut oil at CstCo, but I prefer pretending. 🙂
Apr30IMG_7250I paired this outfit with some fun flats from Target from last spring, as well as some cute little envelope earrings from ModCloth. I’d like to think they are a letter from spring saying “Hey girl, it’s been awhile…I’ll be there soon!” I actually ended up buying a $2 sweater later in the day at a thrift store just to keep warm. I need to remember that spring doesn’t necessarily mean summer.
Apr30IMG_7252Apr30MG_7258I have been keeping it very simple lately with my outfits. Some would say I’m growing or changing my fashion sense, but I’m pretty sure I’m just lazy. When a new season hits I usually spend a couple weeks trying to remember what I even have and what it goes with and what even still fits after a brutal Minnesota winter that takes so many cupcakes to survive. I’m sure I’ll be back to overdoing it soon 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Inspiration Station

While scrolling all the lovely retailers I follow on Instagram, I found a photo of a model wearing a chambray shirt under a dress. It was gorgeous and, as always, I felt tempted to go to the website and see how much those items cost.

Until I realized I had a chambray shirt that looked exactly like the one featured. Matched it up with my dresses, and I had an identical outfit.

IMG_1501I realize I wore this Lularoe beauty a few weeks ago for Easter, but it fit so perfectly with the chambray. And I think it helps support a very important lesson here: You don’t have to buy a million pieces of clothing to have a well-rounded, stylish closet. You just have to find new ways to wear what you own!

IMG_1569I opted to add some bold accessories, including a jeweled necklace and bow belt.

IMG_1552 IMG_1554I am so excited to try some new outfits with chambray under a dress for the rest of the season! It was perfect for warm, but not that warm, spring weather 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Spring It On

Florals! Pastels! Oh my! Whether the weather agrees or not, ’tis the season to wear it all! What better time to blind everyone with your brightness (and lack of tan whiteness) than Easter?
A5IMG_7183I love this outfit because it’s loud and it’s mostly thrifted! The dress, jacket and cardigan all came from separate Goodwill trips! I have the jacket for sale in my shop…but I’m seriously considering taking it down considering how much I have been wearing it lately.
A5IMG_7195 A5IMG_7200You’ve seen these sandals appear before and you will see them again. I’m so excited to have it be sandal weather again! And I am, once again, breaking my own rules on light colored tights. When it’s right, it’s right.
A5IMG_7198Why not go over the top with a floral pastel and earrings? Don’t mind if I do.
A5IMG_7206And if you were wondering, this is what most of my blog pictures look like…I have yet to get injured severely.
