Jackie and Marilyn | Darkness Between the Fireflies

This outfit is actually nearly a month old, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to talk about it. Minnesota has been unseasonably cold lately (50s and 60s) and I just want to remember a steamier time. I wore this sundress from Eshakti.com to a concert at the Minnesota Zoo. I had never been to the zoo for a show before and by golly it was GORGEOUS. We went to see Mason Jennings, one of my favorite local artists who I have seen too many times to count, but his performance at the zoo became my all-time favorite. During a song called Darkness Between the Fireflies, there were actually fireflies…it was that good.A pair of swans sat in a pond nearby to listen to the show, and at one point there was a rainbow. I highly recommend to catch this outdoor venue if you’re in the Minnesota area!
I wanted to wear something comfortable and cool to the show, as I knew it was going to be warm and we were going to be sitting on tiny cement bleachers the whole show (the one downside!). I chose this dress because it is so light you might as well be naked and it has pockets! I will never overlook a dress with pockets.

I wore my trusty (now almost completely broken) ModCloth sandals to make sure to break them in before my wedding. I miss how white they were in this picture!
The flower earrings are hard to fit in to an outfit sometimes but when I do I always enjoy showing them off.
I kept the hair swept back to fight the heat, and put a flower in it to up the sass.
I’m hoping summer isn’t over for good here in Minnesota, but if it is, at least I had this night and this outfit!

Jackie and Marilyn | Dear Spring

I don’t want to jinx it guys, but spring is here! By no means am I sunbathing or turning on the A/C but there are a lot more thunderstorms than snow storms, and that’s all one can really ask for!
Ap30IMG_7243I wanted to celebrate spring this weekend with some springy hues, shoes and accessories! I wore this vintage wrap dress while running errands and it made me feel like I worked in a flower shop or some cute little bakery that just opened up its patio for the season. Really I was a girl searching for cheap coconut oil at CstCo, but I prefer pretending. 🙂
Apr30IMG_7250I paired this outfit with some fun flats from Target from last spring, as well as some cute little envelope earrings from ModCloth. I’d like to think they are a letter from spring saying “Hey girl, it’s been awhile…I’ll be there soon!” I actually ended up buying a $2 sweater later in the day at a thrift store just to keep warm. I need to remember that spring doesn’t necessarily mean summer.
Apr30IMG_7252Apr30MG_7258I have been keeping it very simple lately with my outfits. Some would say I’m growing or changing my fashion sense, but I’m pretty sure I’m just lazy. When a new season hits I usually spend a couple weeks trying to remember what I even have and what it goes with and what even still fits after a brutal Minnesota winter that takes so many cupcakes to survive. I’m sure I’ll be back to overdoing it soon 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Everything Nice

Last weekend we decided to drive into the city for brunch, because, well…it’s BRUNCH! Since we decided it very last minute and I was very hungry, I had to get ready quick!
M15IMG_6866This dress is something that is in my shop that I constantly go back and forth on. It’s so comfy and cute and very, very 90s. I wanted to wear it on this particular day because IT WAS SO WARM (in the 60s) and it left plenty of room for the food baby I was about to gain. Plus, how can you got wrong with a pattern that includes sun hats, bicycles and hearts? I made sure to add a butterfly to the whimsy mix with my belt.  I felt a lot like a combination between Phoebe from friends, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s mole women, and an older woman in the red hat society. A great combo, if you ask me.
M15IMG_6868M15IMG_6867I got these shoes from ModCloth and so far I love them. I have been buying and returning shoes looking for the perfect pair for my wedding and these just might be it. If not, I’m keeping them anyway. I love the wedge without the peep toe for spring – and I learned they are easy to walk in for a long period of time as I strolled my brunch off later that day.
M15IMG_6882Seeing as how it takes many hours to dry my hair, I opted to not dry it at all. I just twisted both sides back and haphazardly pinned all the leftover hair in a bun in the back. If you squint your eyes, it doesn’t look so bad!
M15IMG_6887M15IMG_6878I needed a feminine earrings to commemorate spring so enter these blue flowers. Can you believe they are from Walmart? I wasn’t going to tell you that but I feel like you can keep a secret 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Pretty Nice Little Saturday

My husband and I had a rare weekend where we had…drum roll please…no plans. WHAT.

We relaxed at home for the most part, with the exception of a trip to Home Depot where we spent an hour trying to fit a new bathroom vanity into a Honda Civic.

When not MacGyvering furniture into an automobile, my husband and I enjoyed drinking tea, listening to records and watching all of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (which you NEED to watch!).

IMG_0225I went with a pretty simple outfit this weekend to match my complete lack of plans. Something about chambray and denim feels so stylish and classic at the same time.

IMG_0316IMG_0377Yes, I put shoes on inside, but just for photos! I had to make sure I showed the whole outfit. Oxfords and chambray are a perfect combo.
IMG_0443I finished it off with a week-old Jambicure and some fantastic earrings from A Delightful Shop!

The best part of a free weekend is plenty of time to play with Luna. She makes everything better 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Channel Flannel

Believe it or not, winter is on its way out (for now)! But before we started having these unseasonable warm temps, I still had plenty of chances to wear my favorite flannel shirt.

aaIMG_6732I have had this shirt since high school, and my favorite part about it is how thick and structured it is. It is as flannel as flannel can get, so I thought I should dress it up with some more feminine pieces so I didn’t get mistaken as a lumberjack.

aaIMG_6739It’s hard to see the print, but this skirt actually has little red giraffes on it. LITTLE RED GIRAFFES! I don’t think I have to say anymore.
aacIMG_6741 aaIMG_6737I kept the red theme going with my deep red boot socks. I love how these peek out my boots – but I especially love how warm they are. Even though I’m beyond thrilled about summer being on its way, I will be sad to see my big comfy socks go. I promise to not wear them with my sandals.

aaIMG_6741I think the most feminine part of this outfit is my headband, which I have sang my praises of on here before. If something can be bedazzled and I STILL want to wear it, then it must be special! I have never been a rhinestone studded sort of girl, but I think this outfit playfully tows that line. Now where is my pink cowboy hat?

Shirt: THE PAST?
Skirt: Lola
Tights: Target
Socks: Steve Madden
Boots: ModCloth
Headband: Len
Earrings: Gifted
Sunglasses: Ruche

Marilyn Style: My (Would Be) Valentine

Last year on Valentine’s Day, this guy I had only met once (but had been talking to incessantly) sent flowers to my work and a little note professing his feelings. I was much like Brianna as a Valentine’s Underachiever,  but because of this little gesture this day means a lot more to me than it used to. So this year, with my Valentine on the right side of the country, I was excited to be able to spend the day with him!

zIMG_6682We had tickets to go see a performer we like in the city and I was promised myself some pizza. The performer, Tickle Torture, is a bit, uh, racy…but has absolutely great catchy Prince-on-cocaine like music that will instantly pull you in. So seeing as how he was going to be dancing on stage in a golden thong and setting off confetti canons, I decided to go a little “racy” as well. Now let me warm you, this is a neglige I’m pulling off as a dress with a nude slip underneath. So no, you’re not staring at my unmentionables but my slip would like you to think so!
zIMG_6674As Brianna mentioned, it was INSANELY cold out on V-day, so I wore a long black duster, a couple layer of tights, and planned on wearing my big jacket as well. Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about the cold because…
zIMG_6679Right before we were about to leave, our puppy ate an entire bag of cat food and his stomach ballooned to five times its size. Since his breed is prone to “bloat”…the concert was canceled for us! Before I changed out of my outfit and in to “puppy watch” sweatpants, I made Adam take some photos as proof that I tried!
The cold, the drive, the staying up late and the general coziness of my house actually had me pretty relieved that we weren’t going out. I think I’m officially old! And don’t worry, after many trips to the bathroom…Brim is feeling much better.
