Jackie and Marilyn | Candy Corn

Ever since Melissa’s wedding this summer, I’ve been looking for a way to wear the eShakti dress I purchased for the occasion. It’s a lot of yellow so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to overwhelm it with color. But then again, I didn’t want it to be boring either. Enter black and orange accessories!

IMG_4758This outfit isn’t just delightfully fall – it is quintessentially Halloween! And considering I wore it for the week before Halloween, it was perfect 🙂 With the white and yellow on top and orange on the bottom, I felt exactly like candy corn!

Admittedly, this dress has been a small pain for me because it just does not want to iron flat. The fabric of this dress just doesn’t want to keep out the wrinkles. I don’t think it wouldn’t hinder me from getting another item from eShakti, but after ironing the white seam around the waist for the second time, I was begging the dress to lay flat. But I’m not one to give up on a dress so easily!

IMG_4788The mix of a black cardigan and tights with the bright orange shoes allowed for some balance between the bold colors of orange and yellow. Do I normally endorse a quirky cacophony of color? Yes. Is it always necessary? No. You can create a fun seasonal outfit without going too overboard if you mix in a universal neutral color to even out the eye-catching tones.

IMG_4777These bright orange heels have been a fantastic addition to my autumn-based closet. So have these new acorn earrings from ModCloth!

IMG_4776 IMG_4794Keeping with fall, I now have on the Fall Fancy wrap from Jamberry. They’re a bit metallic for fall and I think I may save my next manicure with this wrap for the holidays, but they’re still pretty cute and top off an autumnal outfit with their leaf print!

Dress: eShakti (similar)
Cardigan: Old Navy
Earrings: ModCloth
Tights: Target
Shoes: B.A.I.T. Footwear

Jackie and Marilyn | Autumn Palette

I’ve been so happy with the mildly cool weather, falling leaves and vibrant colors in Minnesota lately. It’s truly breathtaking!

I decided this week to wear an outfit that matches the lovely autumn palette outside. I tried wearing a coat and scarf because it was supposed to be a bit chilly, but I ditched it quickly – a warm dress and cardigan were enough.

IMG_4571This outfit was based around on of my favorite new items: A mustard Amelia from Lularoe. I’ve wanted one of these babies since I tried my first dress, and now it’s mine! It’s a perfect base for any fall ensemble.

IMG_4618

To keep the fall colors going, I chose a forest green cardigan, dark red leggings and brown accessories. Each piece of the outfit matches different leaves in the trees near my home 🙂IMG_4612I was a little worried about this outfit at first: There are no patterns! Would it be too boring? Thankfully it wasn’t. You don’t always need a bunch of patterns – sometimes it’s enough to just wear seasonal hues! Plus, the autumn leaves don’t have a Boston Terrier pattern and they look gorgeous anyway, right? (Although that would be super adorable and amazing…)

IMG_4580For brown accessories, I chose some cognac booties, tan boot socks and a brown belt with feathers.

IMG_4631 IMG_4633Wanting to keep it a little interesting, I chose a bold autumnal leaf necklace and earrings that match but are oddly enough not from the same place! Serendipitous pairings are the best 🙂

IMG_4629And because I live in Jamberry wraps lately, I’ve been sporting these lovely Country Harvest wraps thanks to my friend Sarah!

IMG_4635What I Wore:
Dress: Lularoe (other colors)
Cardigan: Thrifted
Coat: ModCloth (via Stylish Surprise)
Scarf: Brickyard Buffalo
Belt: Forever 21
Earrings: Francesca’s
Necklace: ModCloth (another color)
Leggings: Old Navy
Socks: Target
Boots: ModCloth
Nails: Jamberry

Happy fall, y’all 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Summer and Seagulls Forever

This past weekend we were #blessed (yeah, that good!) with some GORGEOUS weather. On Sunday, it was in the upper 80’s! Since I knew summer was fleeting, I took the opportunity to wear a new favorite of mine: this seagull dress from Eshakti.
seagulls4I got this dress on sale before my honeymoon in hopes that I could wear it in Duluth and impress all of the pretty birds, but it didn’t arrive in time. Luckily, a walk around Lake Calhoun was just as nice!
seagulls3I love the bodice of the dress, it’s a nice vintage-inspired style. It looks like they are doing this style in a lot of plain colors on the site too, if you’re in to that sort of thing ;). This dress is deceivingly heavy! Could definitely wear it in the fall with some leggings and still be warm, though it doesn’t scream anything but “summer” to me, so I probably won’t too often!
seagulls5I wanted to keep this outfit simple as I knew I would be running errands/moving around all day. I put on my trusty flip flops and a nice bird hair pin from ModCloth.
seagulls2The end of summer probably also means less…dramatically bright eye make up. Probably for most people. Less likely for me. But I’ll try to do some earth tones now and again to not scare anyone 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Orange, Owls and Octopuses

I love animal prints and bold colors, so I combined them for a perfectly fall outfit!IMG_4221If anyone ever tells you “That’s too much color,” you tell that person to put a sock in it! There is no such thing. Someone else might have paired the owls with something more subtle, but subtle is for the dogs.

IMG_4224I wanted to wear the orange heels with this dress and separately I paired the purple tights with the print. Purple and orange are not colors I would put together, but when I did it was perfect!

IMG_4253To keep on an O and bold theme, I chose an octopus necklace to go with the dress. I didn’t have any oval earrings so I chose my circle arrows instead 🙂

IMG_4236IMG_4237What I Wore:
Dress: ModCloth
Cardigan: ModCloth (other colors)
Necklace: Vinted
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Tights: Target
Shoes: BAIT Footwear

The lesson for the week is be bold. Be beautiful. Be you 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Gunne Sax

If you’re my husband and hear “I found a Gunne Sax at the thrift store today!”…well you’d unfortunately know what it means because I talk about this brand too much. I have been obsessed with Gunne Sax dresses ever since I got this dress at a local thrift store when I was in high school.
GunneSax3GunneSax4These are dresses made in the 1970s and 80s that just scream boho chic, and they have developed quite a vintage collectors following as well.  If you check out Etsy, you’ll see that these babies are popular and do not come cheap. Also, stop looking at Etsy because you’ll want to buy them all.
GunneSax6 GunneSax7My dear sweet Goodwill gave me this almost PERFECT condition, fits me like a glove, totally twirlable Gunne Sax dress for $4. Thanks, Goodwill! I don’t blame them, it isn’t lined so when I picked it up it looks like a very cute but very homemade dress. It was already in my basket when I spied the Gunne Sax label on the inside. There is a bit of loose stitching on one of the straps, but other than that it’s perfect!
GunneSax8My favorite feature has to be the awesome lace up sides! They are real, so you can adjust them to let yourself breathe a little! Of course, I had to wear this the first day I had the chance, so I wore it to a local festival/friend’s birthday party without stitching the strap back up and it got looser. Silly me! It will spend some time in my mend pile but it was worth it.
GunneSax1I kept my red white and blue theme going with these cute envelope earrings from ModCloth and my trusty, nearly broken ModCloth sandals. Add some 70s sunglasses, and you’ve got a blast from the past!

Jackie and Marilyn | Darkness Between the Fireflies

This outfit is actually nearly a month old, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to talk about it. Minnesota has been unseasonably cold lately (50s and 60s) and I just want to remember a steamier time. I wore this sundress from Eshakti.com to a concert at the Minnesota Zoo. I had never been to the zoo for a show before and by golly it was GORGEOUS. We went to see Mason Jennings, one of my favorite local artists who I have seen too many times to count, but his performance at the zoo became my all-time favorite. During a song called Darkness Between the Fireflies, there were actually fireflies…it was that good.A pair of swans sat in a pond nearby to listen to the show, and at one point there was a rainbow. I highly recommend to catch this outdoor venue if you’re in the Minnesota area!
Mason2
I wanted to wear something comfortable and cool to the show, as I knew it was going to be warm and we were going to be sitting on tiny cement bleachers the whole show (the one downside!). I chose this dress because it is so light you might as well be naked and it has pockets! I will never overlook a dress with pockets.
Mason3 Mason1
I wore my trusty (now almost completely broken) ModCloth sandals to make sure to break them in before my wedding. I miss how white they were in this picture!
Mason4
The flower earrings are hard to fit in to an outfit sometimes but when I do I always enjoy showing them off.
Mason5
I kept the hair swept back to fight the heat, and put a flower in it to up the sass.
Mason6
I’m hoping summer isn’t over for good here in Minnesota, but if it is, at least I had this night and this outfit!
