Jackie and Marilyn | Chambray on Chambray

I’ve seen men wearing all-denim suits from the 90s, and it’s not my favorite fashion trend of yore. However, as I was trying to find clothes to wear with my chambray skirt, I realized my chambray top would be a great fit!

The ultimate question I had was whether or not this outfit would look like a denim 90s suit. And the answer I landed on was no!

IMG_3513What ultimately makes the chambray-on-chambray work is that they aren’t the exact same pattern or the same colors. Same tone and theme, but not matchy-matchy. A win!

IMG_3509Keeping on denim theme, I chose the button beauties from A Delightful Shop to go with the outfit.

IMG_3521And for a hot second I thought about wearing some chambray-like flats I own, but that seemed a little too far – it was a neutral palette and begged for a little pop of bold color. Enter my mustard heels πŸ™‚

IMG_3524What I Wore:
Shirt: Old Navy
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be sitting here waiting for fall to begin.

Jackie and Marilyn | Gingham Gal

Confession time: I wore this outfit last Friday for a friend’s birthday celebration at Betty Danger’s Country Club, washed it on Saturday and wore it again to church on Sunday. I couldn’t help it, I love it so much!

IMG_3138This skirt arrived just in time and was perfect for attending a country club for the 99% (the Betty Danger’s motto). The linen material and gorgeous yellow gingham pattern make it a gorgeous summer staple! New challenge for myself: Make it work for fall πŸ™‚

IMG_3132IMG_3123The gingham material seemed like it would blend well with chambray, so I opted for a little pattern mixing, which I think works.

The skirt is a dream. I am normally skeptical of any skirt that isn’t A-line and that has some piece that draws attention right to my belly, but when I saw it on Brickyard Buffalo I had to try it. I was worried it would accentuate my belly but it actually flattens it out nicely!

IMG_3137The one negative is that because it is a linen material, it wrinkles a LOT. I had to iron the pleats into submission after I washed it. It worked, but it took effort. But for a darling bow skirt? I’ll do anything πŸ™‚

IMG_3143I wore some wedges and a chevron pair of button earrings with the outfit to top off the fun summer look, as well as a sun hat. And so I was set to class it up with the best of them! And go grocery shopping πŸ˜‰ The things I do for the love of a skirt.

Shirt: Old Navy
Hat: Target
Earrings: Brickyard Buffalo
Skirt: Brickyard Buffalo (also on Etsy!)

Jackie and Marilyn | Forever Summer

Guys, is summer over yet? Do I still have to keep doing this whole summer thing? Really?

Fine. Only for 57 more days, though.

Sometimes it can feel to me like summer drags on forever, so the theme for this week’s outfit is Forever…21, that is!

IMG_2980Most of the main pieces of this outfit come from Forever 21: the skirt, the blouse and the hat. I recently claimed I was giving up on Forever 21 because it can be such a hassle to find something, let alone something that fits, but then I saw these beauties and sort of went back on my word.

IMG_3000 IMG_3006That’s sort of Forever 21’s thing, though. You dig around forever (ha-yuck) until you find one or two things that makes the whole effort seem worth it. Maybe. We’ll see if I go back again after these finds πŸ™‚

IMG_3047 IMG_3043 IMG_3034The blouse has been a huge staple of mine all summer. It looks great tucked into a skirt and is nice and blousey at the bottom for draping over high-waisted shorts.

IMG_3050I loved mixing the linen/chambray pattern with the daisies, but I opted for a simpler earring. Enter these denim beauties from A Delightful Shop!

IMG_3066 IMG_3069For my shoes, I broke out my new wedges from ModCloth, purchased during a recent summer sale. They are actually some of the most comfortable wedges I have ever owned. I can walk in them without feeling like I am going to trip over myself, but I still get the height I want! Major pro for a klutz like me.

Blouse: Forever 21
Hat: Forever 21
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Skirt: Forever 21

Jackie and Marilyn | Hen Party

When I was preparing for my bachelorette party, my grandmother called it a “hen party.” Well if there’s anyone who had a hen party it’s Melissa, because there were probably actual hens there – we went to the zoo!

Putting together an outfit for a bachelorette party can be a struggle, but for my outfit I reflected the bride-to-be at least a little. Hence the safari hat πŸ˜‰

IMG_2832This dress is a birthday gift from Melissa last year! The chambray is perfect for a light, casual-yet-dressy outfit.

IMG_2864IMG_2753(Also, please mind the bruise on my thigh – I went tubing over the 4th of July and the next morning, it was just there!)

The sun hat was pretty important for the day, because even though it was overcast it was super warm and I bet I would have found a way to sunburn my face through the clouds.

IMG_2835 IMG_2838I complemented the chambray with a cream floral necklace, cream floral earrings and white Saltwater Sandals. Yes, I did buy more colors. No, I am not ashamed. They are my summer staple and I love them so! I also rocked a teal polka dot Jamberry mani and pedi πŸ™‚

IMG_2846 IMG_2849The day was absolutely wonderful. Melissa’s sister Kristina put together a fun party that complemented the bride so well! We went to the zoo and had a scavenger hunt (Long story short, it led to me yelling numerous times to see if there was anyone at the zoo named Adam and I found one!), were driven around town very kindly by Melissa’s brother-in-law, went to our friend Becca’s house for a drink break, attended an improv show at a comedy club where Melissa was brought onstage and sang some karaoke. Bachelorette party theme song? Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose.” And Melissa got to (perfectly) rap “Butterfly” by Crazy Town one last time before the ring πŸ˜‰ I am so excited for this beautiful lady to be married! She and her husband-to-be will be very happy together. He’s getting a good one!

What I Wore:
Dress: ModCloth
Necklace: Forever 21
Hat: Target
Earrings: Ruche
Sandals: Brickyard Buffalo (also on ModCloth)

Jackie and Marilyn | Inspiration Station

While scrolling all the lovely retailers I follow on Instagram, I found a photo of a model wearing a chambray shirt under a dress. It was gorgeous and, as always, I felt tempted to go to the website and see how much those items cost.

Until I realized I had a chambray shirt that looked exactly like the one featured. Matched it up with my dresses, and I had an identical outfit.

IMG_1501I realize I wore this Lularoe beauty a few weeks ago for Easter, but it fit so perfectly with the chambray. And I think it helps support a very important lesson here: You don’t have to buy a million pieces of clothing to have a well-rounded, stylish closet. You just have to find new ways to wear what you own!

IMG_1569I opted to add some bold accessories, including a jeweled necklace and bow belt.

IMG_1552 IMG_1554I am so excited to try some new outfits with chambray under a dress for the rest of the season! It was perfect for warm, but not that warm, spring weather πŸ™‚
