Today is very special for us here at Jackie and Marilyn: It is our first birthday! One year ago, we launched our first blog post highlighting our Oscar party style choices.
To celebrate our birthday – or, dare we say, “bird-day” – we wandered around Melissa’s neck of the woods in Cannon Falls, Minn., to check out the town and take some photos!
Melissa came up with the idea for a “bird-day” celebration thanks to this lovely new frock from eShakti. As Brianna already had this ModCloth gem at the ready, it was a no-brainer.
We started the blog with the mission to share our personal styles and, hopefully, provide some outfit inspiration for our readers. Hopefully we have accomplished that!
This year has brought about plenty of changes for the both of us: new jobs, new puppies, engagements and more. One thing, however, has remained constant: We are still a couple of goobers who are lucky to have each other as friends 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to read our style blog! Hopefully you have enjoyed it as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.

I am a stubborn individual. When I am set on something, that’s just the way it is. I feel it is important to state this to preface my next statement: I wore non-sweater tights on Valentine’s Day when it was 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hear me out: The tights have little hearts on them! How was I not going to wear them on Valentine’s Day? That’s what I told myself while standing outside of my car in the cold for five minutes.
That’s as long as I lasted outside. Hence, all photos this week were inside 🙂
But hey, I changed my decision to wear flats and wore boots with a pair of socks underneath instead! Because I’m not entirely crazy…also, these heart tights were on clearance. Before Valentine’s Day. WHAT.
So obviously this past Saturday was Valentine’s Day, and I hope your day was filled with love even if you don’t like the holiday! There is a Stuff Mom Never Told You video that highlights 9 Types of Women on Valentine’s Day. Before I met my husband, I was a classic Anti-Valentine’s Day Crusader/Galentine’s Day Observer. I didn’t get the point.
But he loves Valentine’s Day. He believes in showing love every day, but he sees no reason to not do so on Valentine’s Day either. So for him, I sort of converted. Now I am a Romantic Underachiever/Galentine’s Day Observer. I don’t make a big deal out of it, but he gets a card and we spend the day together 🙂
This year we spent a romantic day car shopping, lol, but then we bought supplies to make sushi at home and went record shopping. The sushi did not turn out as well as it did last time we made it, so we ate ice cream for dinner instead. Whoops lol.
The dress I wore for the day was a perfect-for-Valentine’s frock from Lularoe. Red with lace and thick enough to be appropriate for winter!
The bird belt seemed like an obvious choice – they look like they are kissing! Little lovebirds 🙂
And just in case you forgot about our Instagram giveaway, I wore my own pair of arrow earrings because Cupid I guess?
What I Wore:
Dress: Lularoe
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Belt: Charlotte Russe (old)
Tights: Old Navy
Boots: DSW
I would love to hear what your plans were for Valentine’s Day! Even if it was a date between you and Netflix, because that sounds beautiful. This past weekend I also celebrated the loveliest of all holidays, Galentine’s Day! But more on that next week 😉
Winter is upon us, friends. And despite a couple warm days this weekend, it is officially layering season.
That means two pairs of socks, fleece-lined leggings, sweaters over dresses and hot liquids at all times. It’s a constant battle to stay warm in the frozen tundra but it allows for some creative outfits.
This one came from my desire to wear this purple dress and testing how every pullover I own looked over it. This bird sweater worked! The Peter Pan collar fit perfectly over the sweater’s neckline. This will be a winter favorite for certain.
If you’re living in a below-freezing region, you know how hard it is to wear something cute and keep yourself warm. But there are definitely ways to do it. For example, if it had been 20 degrees colder, I could have worm a thermal or long sleeve shirt under the sweater without anyone noticing. Bam: secret layers.
Also, I really can’t emphasize enough how magical fleece-lined leggings and tights are. They work. And who says you can’t wear three pairs of socks??
Minnesota is supposedly going to see some warmer temps this week after they took a nose dive into “I need three cups of tea before my core temperature returns to normal” territory, but as long as I have a wealth of cozy, secret layers, I’ll be fine either way.

I’ll admit, I’ve put a bird on it way more than anyone should. My living room is full of bird knick knacks, my closet is full of bird dresses, and today I tried to hug a goose.
Minnesota has been a dreary, rain-soaked mess for a few days now, so I thought it would be nice to reflect on those few days of sunshine we had – we even had a 70+ degree day!
The dress in this outfit is one of my favorites: spin-worthy A-line skirt, pockets, and a fantastic pattern. I adore it.
I’ve been getting into pattern mixing lately, and I find I like mixing bold patterns with subtle ones. It creates a really nice balance!
I wore a cardigan with this outfit because, let’s face it, I am a girl who loves a good cardigan. Admittedly, I only wore it briefly in the morning and for photos – it was finally that nice out!
My absolute favorite piece this week has to be my mustard shoes. I wore these beauties for my fall wedding, and I love breaking them out now! They were too cute to stay in a shadowbox forever with my veil and bouquet – they need to be shown off as much as possible 🙂
Now if you’ll excuse me, I am going to curl into a ball with some tea and my puppy until the sun comes back out again.

I’ll say this on every post: I’m terrible at editing my outfits. I want to wear all the colors, patterns, and eras at once. I can tone it down, and in previous work environments I had to. I used to pair this amazeballs Hummingbird dress with brown tights, brown boots, and sorrow. Now that I’m known for being a little out there with my work style, I’ve forgotten to care.
The theme of this outfit was Rainbow Bright Goes to Corporate America. Or crayola puke. The last couple weeks I’ve been slowly pulling out my spring clothes…and realize they are all very brightly colored. I paired this dress with some killer turquoise ribbed tights from Target, my green plaid boots from ModCloth, and some pink target boot socks.
I will admit, the forest green blazer is a little much. I initially put it on because I was cold and it was near me…I left it on because it was a color and therefore a part of my theme. Had my baby blue blazer been clean, I think it would have been a better fit. Also, Baby Blue Blazer is much more fun to say.
I tried to keep my accessories simple. It’s not often I wear stud earrings, but I couldn’t resist keeping the bird theme going. The blingy ring was an antique store find that I just recently rediscovered in my collection. The hair clip was from my wonderful mother, who once again knows my style all too well.
Hopefully next week I’ll have an example of my ability to dress like a human who takes herself seriously. I promise I can do it!
