Jackie and Marilyn | What Season Is It Anyway?

I recently moved (read: am still moving) and have been trying to keep some seasonal clothes set aside in a suitcase so that I can easily access them while everything is still packed. The problem? I don’t know what season it is! We have been having unseasonable highs in the 60s, we had some snow and freezing temps yesterday and this Halloween is promising to be a mild again. The rollercoaster of Midwest weather! So I decided to be prepared for a little bit of everything!
sweaterweather1This maxi skirt is something I would normally wear in the spring and summer as it is light and floral, but it is the perfect amount of warmth for a 60-degree day! I slapped some tights on under it for when it was almost 20 degrees cooler in the morning, but by the time I got home from work they were ready to be set free!
sweaterweather2I’m a big fan of the button up sweater from ModCloth because it’s not that warm. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good warm sweater, but the knit in this one leaves a lot of ventilation and is perfect for those in between days. I only had a tank top on underneath it, so I was happy and comfortable in leaving it on all day.
sweaterweather3I wanted to wear my pretty lacy boots one last time, as I’m sure I will be trading them for a more rugged pair soon! It is nice to have a boot that your feet aren’t overwhelmingly hot in for times like these, though!
sweaterweather5I played up the whimsy of this outfit with a butterfly belt I got at a local garage/vintage sale. I’d say, with out the faux fur on my sweater you would think this was a spring outfit! Maybe we could just skip winter and go straight to spring? I’ll start up a petition!

Jackie and Marilyn | Autumn Palette

I’ve been so happy with the mildly cool weather, falling leaves and vibrant colors in Minnesota lately. It’s truly breathtaking!

I decided this week to wear an outfit that matches the lovely autumn palette outside. I tried wearing a coat and scarf because it was supposed to be a bit chilly, but I ditched it quickly – a warm dress and cardigan were enough.

IMG_4571This outfit was based around on of my favorite new items: A mustard Amelia from Lularoe. I’ve wanted one of these babies since I tried my first dress, and now it’s mine! It’s a perfect base for any fall ensemble.

IMG_4618

To keep the fall colors going, I chose a forest green cardigan, dark red leggings and brown accessories. Each piece of the outfit matches different leaves in the trees near my home 🙂IMG_4612I was a little worried about this outfit at first: There are no patterns! Would it be too boring? Thankfully it wasn’t. You don’t always need a bunch of patterns – sometimes it’s enough to just wear seasonal hues! Plus, the autumn leaves don’t have a Boston Terrier pattern and they look gorgeous anyway, right? (Although that would be super adorable and amazing…)

IMG_4580For brown accessories, I chose some cognac booties, tan boot socks and a brown belt with feathers.

IMG_4631 IMG_4633Wanting to keep it a little interesting, I chose a bold autumnal leaf necklace and earrings that match but are oddly enough not from the same place! Serendipitous pairings are the best 🙂

IMG_4629And because I live in Jamberry wraps lately, I’ve been sporting these lovely Country Harvest wraps thanks to my friend Sarah!

Dress: Lularoe (other colors)

Scarf: Brickyard Buffalo

Happy fall, y’all 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Go with the Flow

Although I love a good curve-hugging, spanks-needing dress, not every day calls for me to be extremely uncomfortable for the sake of fashion. Sometimes you just have to feel cool and comfy! Enter this silky dress and kimono!
Flowy2I got this high-low dress from Goodwill (where else?) and I just love it. I don’t have a lot of one-color, neutral items, so it’s hard for me to layer sometimes. Since the kimono is so colorful and loud, I thought it would be the perfect time to invest in a simple frock.
Flowy1I cannot for the life of me remember when or where I got this kimono. It may have been a gift? I’d say that that’s when you know you have too many clothes (I do) but I also have a terrible memory, so it’s usually a wash no matter what. Regardless, I love it! There aren’t many perfect warm but not too warm days to wear it, so I’m thankful for fall-ish to give me the opportunity!
Flowy4Of course, I don’t skip belting things…ever. I don’t care have “flowy” something is supposed to look, I always feel better when bringing a little shape to it. I added some cute floral earrings from ModCloth to dress it up a bit too.
Flowy3I don’t wear my glasses on the blog much, but I do wear glasses more than contacts (my eyes are raisins). I’ll never fully LOVE glasses, but it’s nice to have some fun colors to play with like these pink/purple ones.
Flowy5Of course, Mr. Wilford Brimley gets jealous when I am taking pictures without him. He wanted you to know that he is working on his fashion endeavors and sporting a very “wrinkle-chic” coat. 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Fond Farewell to Floral

Even though there are certainly flowers in summer, something about floral is too classically spring. So I felt like I needed to get one more floral outfit in before the season officially turned.

IMG_2008This dress is originally from ModCloth, but I purchased it used from Vinted! I love how adorable the turquoise looks behind the floral pattern. I paired it with a dust blue cardigan to bring our some of the light leaves.

IMG_2024However, the weather is warming and I definitely didn’t wear this cardigan for long. This dress was actually capsleeved originally but the sleeves were oddly tight, so my friend Chelsey cut and hemmed the sleeves so it became sleeveless!

IMG_2031Everything about this outfit was in the details, making it look like a garden party of clothing! I chose matching floral oxford flats, some AMAZINGLY comfortable Lularoe leggings that matched the coral flowers, a vintage leaf belt, a teacup necklace and book flower earrings.

IMG_2061 IMG_2060 IMG_2054 IMG_2064A friend of mine once told me, based on how I dressed, that I should have been a kindergarten teacher (which she conveniently told me days before my graduation with a degree in English/Mass Communications). I feel like this outfit is a perfect example of how right she was. But I embace it 🙂

Jackie and Marilyn | Courthouse Chic

Things are HEATING UP. I mean, it’s supposed to be summer (and the weather is stuck, for the most part, in spring), but also my life is going at the typical “Blink and you might miss it” summer pace. I have less than two months before I get married in my yard and the the to-do list is out the door!
1June2Thankfully we got one thing checked off the list last week: we applied for our marriage license! We both had to take time off of work since the courthouse for our county isn’t close to us and isn’t open on the weekends. It was nice to get up early, get dressed and NOT go to work.

1June1I could’ve gone to the courthouse in my PJ’s, but as it was a day I was hoping to remember, I wanted to wear something a little more fancy and a little more wedding-themed. I got this dress from an Instagram shop that always haunts me. The shop is so popular that you can’t really “claim” anything before someone else gets to it. I was 3rd back up for this dress, so I’m pretty lucky the first two fell through!

1June5The butterfly belt was a find from my thrift and garage sale shopping on my birthday. There was a “pop up” vintage shop on the side of the road (really) and I had to stop myself from buying EVERYTHING. Luckily this cute butterfly belt was only $1 so I had to have it. Throw in my favorite white sandals and some pastel sunglasses and you have an outfit to coax the sun out!
1June41June3The courthouse took a total of 15 minutes, so we spent the rest of the day going to birthday lunches with coworkers and registering for gifts. Now to fight the urge to elope….;)

Jackie and Marilyn | Go Gingham

Guys, gingham is back in and I couldn’t be happier! When my parents got married, my mother’s bridesmaids actually had gingham dresses of all different colors. I was lucky enough to get handed down my aunt’s dress from this occasion!

I have a couple of other vintage gingham dresses that I absolutely love, but the gingham of today was great lacking – until now!
May151May152 May155I think I have officially added three different gingham dresses to my wardrobe in the last year, with plenty more on my wishlist. I love how it is both classic and a little edgy, and you can pair it with so many things as it’s not too wild of a pattern.
May154 May156I paired this dress with my new favorite sandals and new favorite earrings, why not wear all your favorites?
May153A good reason to wear all your favorites: pictures with you favorites! My friend Becca came to do some engagement pictures for us and they turned out lovely! Despite some crazy thunderstorms, she was still a trooper. Notice that my fiance is also wearing gingham. We just know how to roll 🙂
