Jackie and Marilyn | Orange, Owls and Octopuses

I love animal prints and bold colors, so I combined them for a perfectly fall outfit!IMG_4221If anyone ever tells you “That’s too much color,” you tell that person to put a sock in it! There is no such thing. Someone else might have paired the owls with something more subtle, but subtle is for the dogs.

IMG_4224I wanted to wear the orange heels with this dress and separately I paired the purple tights with the print. Purple and orange are not colors I would put together, but when I did it was perfect!

IMG_4253To keep on an O and bold theme, I chose an octopus necklace to go with the dress. I didn’t have any oval earrings so I chose my circle arrows instead πŸ™‚

IMG_4236IMG_4237What I Wore:
Dress: ModCloth
Cardigan: ModCloth (other colors)
Necklace: Vinted
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Tights: Target
Shoes: BAIT Footwear

The lesson for the week is be bold. Be beautiful. Be you πŸ™‚

Jackie and Marilyn | Foxes and Foliage

Happy fall, everyone! Hooray for the best season ever!

One thing I love about fall is all of the fun critter prints. In particular, I love foxes. Lately I’ve found a lot of new fox things and I discovered I (almost) have a full fox outfit. If anyone knows where I can find an inexpensive fox blouse, hook a girl up!

IMG_4064 IMG_4099These knee-high fox socks are perfectly adorable! I was a little worried at first about mixing the brown with the black, but I think it works. I wore denim to make this an outfit full of neutral colors.

IMG_4080 IMG_4102The socks and skirt were delightful but adding fox flats and earrings made it even more fun! At one point I asked my husband “Is this too whimsical?” He said of course not. And I agree – if you’re going to go whimsy, might as well go all out!

IMG_4100 IMG_4101The shirt wasn’t the only piece that wasn’t “foxy.” I decided to wear a fall bow with my ponytail and only had this plaid one. Still super cute! Maybe I don’t need an outfit entirely made of one animal print…or maybe I need a fox now πŸ˜‰

IMG_4103I topped off the outfit with my absolute favorite Jamberry manicure ever: foxes!

IMG_4179What I Wore:
Bow: Forever 21
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Skirt: Target
Skirt: Ruche
Socks: ModCloth
Shoes: ModCloth (similar)
Nails: Jamberry

This outfit was so critterful and fall appropriate that I had to wear it for one of my favorite seasonal activities: apple picking! It was a perfect autumn day πŸ™‚

Jackie and Marilyn | Sort of Summer

As I put together my summer outfits, I tend to run into the same patterns: Dress or blouse-and-skirt/shirts combo, flat shoes, minimal accessories. Because I’m not a huge summer person, I feel like warmer weather is limiting because the more you add on, the higher risk you end up sweating all day. And it’s not even over 75 degrees in Minnesota yet, but I’m already falling into that trap!

But we are creatures of habit. The most important thing for me to keep things fresh during this time period is to wear as many patterns as possible and try fun, new color combinations.

IMG_1975A bold skirt with a subtle print blouse is perfect for this type of outfit! I liked mixing my polka dot blouse with the fox skirt. I also enjoyed how a Peter Pan collar can stand so well on its own so you don’t need a cardigan, blazer or other type of outer layer to complete it.

IMG_1951IMG_1955IMG_1911For colors, I mixed mint with my bold yellow Salt Water sandals because a) I wanted to wear these sandals and b) Mint and yellow are not two colors I would normally pair together. Mint tends to be something I pair with other pastels. However, I thought this color combination worked perfectly!

IMG_1910I added yet one more pattern with my button earrings. They make even the simplest summer outfits perfectly fun.

Blouse: ModCloth
Skirt: Shop Ruche
Earrings: Brickyard Buffalo
Sandals: ModCloth

Jackie and Marilyn | This is 25

Today is my birthday!!! I am now 25 years old. Goodbye, early 20s expectations of doing things and being social. Hello, late 20s and Netflix dates that end at 10 p.m.

I am celebrating by going to work for the first time on my birthday…ever. Luckily I have a job that I enjoy and doesn’t make me crazy. And tonight there is the promise of sushi!

This week’s outfit actually come from the day I celebrated Mother’s Day with the woman who spent this day 25 years ago making sure I ended up in this world! Late that evening my husband and I were walking to a local restaurant for a late dinner and I realized that every day before today was projected to be rainy and gross…so I improvised with some iPhone photos!

IMG_3716 IMG_3719Now don’t get me wrong, I love my DSLR and nothing compares to the photos I get from that camera. But what I love about the iPhone’s camera is that you can still take nice photos in a pinch!

IMG_3728When I was little, I read the Royal Diaries series and distinctly remember Princess Elizabeth saying something in hers about how Henry VIII had told Princess Mary she looked even more beautiful, which “was of course a lie because everyone knows women lose their looks after 25.” I remember thinking “Oh dear, I hope it takes me forever to get to 25!

Now that I’m here…I have to say, with the heaviest of hearts, that Elizabeth I was full of it.

IMG_3724Aging doesn’t make you less beautiful – it adds wisdom to your beauty. And frankly, it is a privilege to age at all. That’s why my birthday is always a big celebration to me, even if I “get older” – it’s one more year I’ve been granted access to this lovely earth and all of the memories I am able to collect while I am here.

IMG_3732 IMG_3734 IMG_3735For this outfit I took my favorite color to wear – mustard yellow – and let it shine, adding subtle details like my owl flats and arrow earrings (which YOU can win a pair of your own if you enter our giveaway by May 31!)
IMG_3745 IMG_3737What I Wore:
Blouse: Thrifted
Earrings: A Delightful Shop
Skirt: ModCloth
Flats: ModCloth

Now I would be completely remiss if I didn’t mention the woman who gave me this awesome day to celebrate and who I spent most of my Saturday celebrating: my mom. She’s a pretty neat lady who wears that wisdom-infused beauty so well. We spent the day shopping around Mall of America, gabbing, acting as bad influences for purchases and eating lunch at Benihana. I love the life I live, and she gave it to me. Thank you, Mom! I love you!

Jackie and Marilyn | Channel Flannel

Believe it or not, winter is on its way out (for now)! But before we started having these unseasonable warm temps, I still had plenty of chances to wear my favorite flannel shirt.

aaIMG_6732I have had this shirt since high school, and my favorite part about it is how thick and structured it is. It is as flannel as flannel can get, so I thought I should dress it up with some more feminine pieces so I didn’t get mistaken as a lumberjack.

aaIMG_6739It’s hard to see the print, but this skirt actually has little red giraffes on it. LITTLE RED GIRAFFES! I don’t think I have to say anymore.
aacIMG_6741 aaIMG_6737I kept the red theme going with my deep red boot socks. I love how these peek out my boots – but I especially love how warm they are. Even though I’m beyond thrilled about summer being on its way, I will be sad to see my big comfy socks go. I promise to not wear them with my sandals.

aaIMG_6741I think the most feminine part of this outfit is my headband, which I have sang my praises of on here before. If something can be bedazzled and I STILL want to wear it, then it must be special! I have never been a rhinestone studded sort of girl, but I think this outfit playfully tows that line. Now where is my pink cowboy hat?

aaIMG_6742What I Wore:
Shirt: THE PAST?
Skirt: Lola
Tights: Target
Socks: Steve Madden
Boots: ModCloth
Headband: Len
Earrings: Gifted
Sunglasses: Ruche
